Hortica Announces New Board Chair and Member |

Hortica Insurance & Employee Benefits, specialists in providing business insurance, employee benefits and personal insurance to the horticultural industry since 1887, is pleased to announce a new chairman and new member of its board of directors. Todd Bachman took effect as the new chairman of the board on February 26, 2008, replacing Chairman M. James Leider. Leider remains on the Board for the completion of his term, which expires in February 2009. Randy Tagawa also joins the board as a new member.
Bachman is chairman and CEO of Bachman’s Inc., a Minnesota-based floral, gift, garden and nursery retailer and wholesaler. He has served on Hortica’s board of directors since 1996. In addition, he has served on the boards of the Minnesota Nursery &
Landscape Association Foundation, American Floral Endowment, Ohio Florists’ Association and North Central Florists Association. Bachman holds a bachelor’s degree in horticultural science from the University of Minnesota.
Tagawa is CEO of Colorado-based Tagawa Greenhouse Enterprises, LLC, a division of the family business founded in 1967 by his grandparents. Tagawa is coinventor on three patents on plug transplanting equipment and processes, one patent pending on tissue culture sorting process, and one patent pending on product transportation and racking systems. He has also served on the boards of the Colorado
Floriculture Foundation and Colorado Greenhouse Growers Association. Tagawa holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and business from Colorado State University.
